Forget the eyebrow pencils, powders, and gels —microblading is a hassle free and more permanent solution for thin brows or even no brows. You won’t have to travel far for this incredible treatment. Microblading specialist, Angela Hugghin owner of Monarch Brow & Facials in Carrboro has been providing this service for over two years now and it’s definitely catching on. As an experienced esthetician with 18 years of experience, Angela is very passionate about her profession and strives to stay on top of new techniques and trends. I sat down with the expert herself to find out how to attain the perfect set of brows.

What is microblading?

“There are different styles and techniques of microblading, it’s called microblading because of the tool I use,” said Angela. She shows me the “U” shaped blade she uses to hand draw the hair-like strokes, just like real eyebrow hairs. When it comes to the color of the eyebrows she will find you the perfect shade, “I can mix anything from light blonde to grey hair to black hair.”

Microblading is a semi-permanent solution for custom eyebrows. The procedure involves a type of tattooing where a pigment is implanted underneath the skin. You can create your dream brows in as little as two hours.

The procedure is complete within two different sessions. “The initial session is putting the brow on and then you come in about a month later, see what’s falling out, what needs to be darker, do we need to adjust the shape a little bit. I don’t consider it done until after that second visit.”

Does it hurt?

“The first ten minutes are not comfy,” said Angela but it’s more of “an annoying kind of scraping, I can numb the skin after the first marks are made.” The full procedure takes around two hours to complete depending on if you are receiving a partial or full set of eyebrows.

How long does it last?

Depending on your skin tone and how you care for you skin microblading can last for up to two years.

What does it cost?

Prices start at $300 for a partial and $600 for a full microblade. This includes two sessions and the products you will need to use after the procedure is complete.
