Most know Anthony Carey in his professional role as general manager of The Siena Hotel and Il Palio in Chapel Hill – the Triangle’s longest-standing AAA-rated Four Diamond hotel. But Anthony and his family are up to something exciting – they are touring the country competing in BMX! Here’s a snippet of Anthony’s conversation about hospitality careers, BMX, and bombalonis with Ron Stutts on March 22, 2018. Click below to hear the full interview.

“What’s so fantastic about the hospitality industry is it’s one of the last industries that you don’t need a traditional two or four year degree. You can come in, right out of high school with this great passion to take care of others. And the two ingredients we look for are this great curiosity, this intelligence to seek more, and combined with a great servant’s heart.”

“You know robots, they can do a lot of things, but they can never replace the human heart. So we’re always going to be needed in hospitality.”

“About four years ago we took him (Anthony’s youngest son) to a bicycle BMX track to try a new sport and he loved it. And we sat on the sidelines for about six months and said, this is ridiculous, we want to get a bike too. And so my wife and I decided to make it family sport so our entire family now races BMX bikes around the country.”

“My wife is really the star of the family. She competed on Team U.S.A. this past year, and competed for a world title.”
