8/4/17: Bell & James “Livin’ It Up (Friday Night)”
“Livin’ it up, livin’ it up! Oh, yeah! Friday night! Livin’ it up, livin’ it up at last, Friday night!”
It’s the weekend, so why would I not wake up with this one. Just as long as I don’t have to wear a white disco suit, complete with big open collar and long gold chains, I’m all right with it. LeRoy Bell and Casey James were Bell & James, a duo out of Philadelphia who had a big hit record back in 1979, all about living it up on a Friday night.
The tune is all about having a good time, and I’m all for that. These boys didn’t just make a song about partying down at the start of the weekend, though! They also wrote songs for Elton john, Gladys Knight, and The Three Degrees before they got signed to a full-on record deal by A&M records. “Livin’ It Up (Friday Night)” went all the way up to #7 on the Billboard chart, and sold well over a million copies in the U.S. alone. It’s a song you heard a lot on the radio around that time, and it’s a song that gets in my head whenever it’s almost time to live it up on a Friday night!
