8/3/17: The Black Crowes “Sting Me”
The band had an album out in the early ‘90s called “The Southern Harmony & Musical Companion.” It’s one of my all-time favorite albums, and you can’t fully appreciate it until you really crank up the volume. Which I do. Often.
There’s not a bad cut on the album, and if you haven’t listened to it before (or haven’t listened to it in a while) I’d highly suggest that you check it out. Chris Robinson handles the lead vocals and his brother Rich Robinson is lead guitarist. The Black Crowes had a lot of band members over the years, all revolving around those two! The band was once referred to as “the most rock and roll rock and roll band in the world” by the British music newspaper “Melody Maker.” I think that’s a pretty cool title to bestow on someone! It’s certainly a fine-sounding distinction in a genre known for great musicians and outrageous behavior. Chris is pretty famous for another reason, too: he was married to well-known actress Kate Hudson for years, through that relationship is pretty firmly in the past, now.
Anyway, the song I couldn’t get out of my head this morning was “Sting Me!” I love the call-and-response vocals and, of course, the song rocks pretty hard too. Enjoy the video!
