In 2008, the town of Hillsborough obtained 20 acres of land adjacent to the North Carolina Railroad corridor to develop a passenger rail service. Currently, Hillsborough is planning and designing a building for the train station. Town staff and designers provided updates in a November Board of Commissioners work session.
Chapel Hill Transit returned to full service operations in August, but some riders are seeing changes on their routes. The transit system is experiencing a critical operator shortage. Typically entering a new school year there are 130 to 140 operators. This year, however, there are only 86.
The Town of Chapel Hill is proposing to add bike lanes to Culbreth Road this summer. If approved, the center turn lane along most of the road would be removed and five feet bike lanes would be added on both sides of the road.
