Two Orange County Pedestrians Killed in Separate Accidents

ORANGE COUNTY-  Two pedestrians have died this week in separate accidents in Orange County.

A man was struck and killed by a car just before 6:30 Tuesday evening as he walked along Bethel Hickory Grove Church Road five miles west of Carrboro.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman driving the car that hit him was reportedly uninjured. The State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

This marks the second pedestrian death in Orange County in three days.

On Sunday morning shortly after 9 o’clock, a man walking along railroad tracks on Buckhorn Road east of Mebane was hit and killed by an Amtrak passenger train. The Carolinian was carrying 118 passengers from Charlotte to New York. No other injuries were reported.

Authorities have not released the name of either victim.

Pedestrian Killed At Estes Drive Intersection

CHAPEL HILL- A woman died Wednesday night after being hit by a car near the intersection of Fordham Boulevard and South Estes Drive. Chapel Hill police say Lisa Renee Baldwin, 41, of Chapel Hill, was walking when she was hit shortly before 8:30 p.m. Baldwin died at the scene of injuries related to the accident.

Pedestrian Struck At Intersection Of Franklin and Columbia

CHAPEL HILL – A pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Franklin Street and Columbia Street, Sergeant Josh Mecimore of the Chapel Police Department confirms.

WCHL received reports of the incident around noon on Monday. It caused a portion of the road to be closed.

Mecimore says it was a low speed collision.  The pedestrian was woman, and she was transported to UNC Hospitals with no major injuries.  Mecimore says she was crossing against the light.

The roadway is open now.
