CHAPEL HILL – The No. 4 Notre Dame women’s soccer team handed No. 1 North Carolina its first loss of the season, despite the Tar Heels’ 18-5 mark in shots, including a 6-2 tally in shots on goal.
The Fighting Irish took a 1-0 lead into halftime after freshman midfielder Morgan Andrews snuck one past the Tar Heels’ sophomore goalkeeper, Bryane Heaberlin, in the 22nd minute.

That ties the largest deficit of the season for Carolina and is only the second time the Tar Heels have trailed an opponent this year.
Notre Dame freshman goalkeeper, Kaela Little, made five saves in the goal, including two in the final two minutes coming off the foot of Carolina’s leading scorer, senior midfielder Crystal Dunn. The UNC women’s soccer team’s official Twitter account referenced the fact that goal-line technology could have given Dunn the equalizer, but no such technology exists.
With the loss, Carolina fell to 7-1, 1-1 in the ACC; Notre Dame improved to 6-1, 2-0. The Tar Heels are on the road Wednesday against the Florida State Seminoles.http://chapelboro.com/sports/unc-sports/no-4-irish-hand-no-1-tar-heels-first-loss/
