UNC Fraud Report Released

October 11, Help “Clean Jordan Lake”

You’re invited to come help “Clean Jordan Lake”!

The annual cleanup event is coming up on Saturday, October 11. It’s part of the NC Big Sweep, a series of cleanup events across the state to keep North Carolina litter-free.

Organizer Fran DiGiano joined WCHL’s Aaron Keck on the air Thursday to talk about the event and call for volunteers.

The Clean Jordan Lake event has been going on for five years – and in that time, more than 3,000 volunteers have picked up 9,000 bags of trash and 3,400 tires from the shoreline.

If you’re interested in taking part this year, head online to CleanJordanLake.org.

Hillsborough Water Line; Food Truck Rodeo; NC Big Sweep

HILLSBOROUGH – The Town of Hillsborough and the Orange Water and Sewer Authority have reached an agreement to transfer a three-mile section of water line to the Town’s ownership.

The transfer will make the movement of water more efficient through Hillsborough, including benefits to the elevated water tank at the UNC Hospital-Hillsborough Campus that has been proposed. It will also simplify the transfer between OWASA and Hillsborough as well as the metering of it.

The pipeline was constructed in 1979. It was designed to combat severe droughts, operational emergencies, and system maintenance. Due to that, it is not normally in use.

The change in ownership will not effect your water bill in Hillsborough.

OWASA approved the transfer on August 22; Hillsborough approved the transfer on September 9.

Registration is not required, but the event organizers are asking for a voluntary RSVP to gauge how many people to expect. You can do so by calling 919-968-2070 by October 3.

The North Carolina Big Sweep litter campaign has returned, and this year’s theme is “Amazing People, Amazing Results.”

Each year the town of Hillsborough asks for groups and volunteers to help clean up OrangeCounty, and from now until October 31 the campaign is asking you to “be amazing.”

A record 384 groups volunteered last year. If you want to be a part of this year’s Big Sweep, you can call Hillsborough Big Sweep coordinator, Terry Hackett at 919-732-1270 ext. 77. Groups are asked to call as soon as possible; individuals who want to help can call and be placed in a group.
