Andrew Wiggins Is Kansas Bound

HUNTINGTON, WV – The nation’s top basketball recruit is headed for Kansas.

Andrew Wiggins announced he would pass up North Carolina, Kentucky, and his parents’ alma mater, FloridaState and play for Bill Self. The 6-foot-7 small forward was a longshot for Carolina, according to some analysts, but the Tar Heel Nation was of course hopeful.

Longtime sportswriter, Art Chansky says the decision had to come down to where the top high school player was going to shine.

“It has to be playing time,” Chanksy says. “Kansas obviously had four seniors and they lost Macklemore to the draft. They’ve got some pretty good underclassmen, and they’ve got a transfer coming in, but clearly the opportunity for him to play and showcase his talents in a national program at Kansas.”

Carolina can now look ahead to its upcoming season with the not-so-freshman team like it had last year. Juniors James Michael McAdoo and P.J. Hairston will lead the way with sophomores Marcus Paige, Joel James, Brice Johnson and others.

“P.J. Hairston coming back and James Michael McAdoo coming back puts the Tar Heels in a position to be a national contender,” Chansky says. “Wiggins certainly would have been another key to that and given Carolina an even higher preseason ranking, I think.”
