Obey Creek Walking Tour; Improve Pritchard Park Trails; Advisory Board Review

The public is invited to a developer-led tour of the Obey Creek property at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 22. The walking tour is an opportunity for people to see the property up-close.

The group is meeting at Ascension Hall in Christ Methodist Church—that’s next to Weaver Street Market and across the street from Harrington Bank.

Obey Creek is a 124-acre property under consideration for a mixed use development proposed for the area across South 15-501 from Southern Village. It is one of two potential developments using the new Development Agreement process approved by Council in March 2013.

In the event of inclement weather, a rain date has been set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 29.

Chapel Hill’s Council Committee on Boards and Commissions will discuss its proposed ideas on how to improve the Town’s decision making process.

The first meeting is happening from 7 to 8 p.m. May 16—and the second is from 6 to 7 p.m. May 21. Both are open to the public and will take place in the Council Chamber at Town Hall.

One of the main points is to address the reshaping of the advisory board’s system.

The Council Committee invites advisory board members and other community stakeholders to attend the presentations—they say it will help to give a better understanding of how these ideas may impact the work of the Town’s current advisory boards.

During the sessions, the Committee will provide all of the information that Council received during the May 8 Council Work Session as well as some additional background information that may be helpful to community members.

The presentation will be videoed and available on the Town’s website following the event.

The newly renovated Chapel Hill Public Library is now open in Pritchard Park.

Accordingly, the Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a volunteer work day on June 1—which is National Trails Day— to repair the natural trail system that serves the park and provides pedestrian access to the library.

Sections of the trail need to be rebuilt and rerouted. The trails were built by volunteers; organizers hope to make the necessary changes and repairs with volunteers as well.

The group is meeting at the library’s lower parking lot at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1.

All volunteers should bring work gloves. Bring rakes and/or loppers if you have them.
