The Tar Heels finished tied for third with Maryland in the ACC at 14-4 in league play. They fell to the Duke Blue Devils in the ACC title game 92-73.
Carolina won five of its last seven games, including two wins in the conference tournament. Key wins throughout the season include a 72-65 decision over No. 10 Maryland in the ACC semifinal, No. 20 Florida State 72-62, and No. 8 Maryland early in the season, 60-57 in Chapel Hill.
UNC fell to a top-five ranked Duke team three times this season. The Blue Devils received the No. 2 seed in the Norfolk, Virginia region and will face the Hampton Pirates on Sunday at 12:00 noon.
Three other ACC teams made it into the 2013 tournament. Maryland received a four-seed in the Bridgeport region and will face No. 13 seed Quinnipiac; Miami is Norfolk’s eight-seed and will tip off the tournament against No. 9 seed Iowa; Florida State landed the No. 8 seed in the Oklahoma City region and will open tournament play against No. 9 seed Princeton.
Tipoff between Carolina and No. 14 seed Albany is Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
