For the fifth year in a row–but just the seventh time in the history of the UNC women’s tennis program–there will be a Tar Heel in the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Tournament.

This comes after freshman Sara Daavettila–ranked 18th in the country–knocked off No. 10 Karla Popovic from the University of California in three sets on Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia.

After dropping the first set 3-6, Daavettila rallied to defeat Popovic by scores of 6-4 and 6-1 in the final two sets.

She now joins a list of recent UNC quarterfinalists that includes Gina Suarez-Malaguti (2013), Jamie Loeb (2014, 2015) and Hayley Carter (2014, 2016).

Next up for the ACC Freshman of the Year is a chance at a Final Four berth–with a match against No. 24 Brienne Minor from Michigan on Saturday at 12 p.m.
