Heading into the regular season’s final stretch, the top-ranked UNC women’s tennis team hung onto its spot tied atop the ACC standings on Sunday following a 7-0 shutout victory on the road over the Clemson Tigers.
The Tar Heels rolled to an easy victory in the doubles portion of the match, before taking five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Now 22-2 this season with an 11-1 record against conference opponents, UNC remains tied with arch-rival Duke for the lead in the league standings.
After dominating Clemson (11-11, 4-7 ACC), the Tar Heels have now set up a showdown against the Blue Devils next Friday with ACC supremacy on the line. The winner will officially earn the top seed in the conference tournament.
UNC travels to Durham on Friday to face Duke, with that match scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
