A frustrating season continues to snowball for the UNC women’s basketball team, which traveled to Reynolds Coliseum Sunday afternoon and came out with a 73-54 loss to the No. 23 NC State Wolfpack.

It was the Tar Heels’ fifth consecutive loss and sixth in their past seven games. The 54 points were their second-lowest scoring output of the season–only one point more than the 53 they scored when the Wolfpack came to Chapel Hill.

UNC (14-11, 4-8 ACC) led 15-14 after the first quarter, but everything went downhill from there–as NC State (20-6, 9-4 ACC) held the Tar Heels to just six points as a team in the second quarter while using an 11-0 run to take control of the game.

Junior guard Paris Kea scored a game-high 21 points for UNC, however the Tar Heels converted on just two of their 19 attempts from three-point range for the day and were outrebounded 58-36.

Although both teams shot less than 34 percent from the floor, NC State’s advantage on the glass ultimately proved to be the difference.

Forward Chelsea Nelson led the way for the Wolfpack in that respect, grabbing 16 rebounds in addition to her 11 points.

By the end of the third quarter, NC State had extended its lead to 59-38 and were well on the way to the program’s sixth consecutive victory over the Tar Heels.

UNC will look to get end its losing streak on Thursday, when it travels to face Georgia Tech (15-11, 4-9 ACC). That game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
