Struggling to deal with inclement weather on Monday that made conditions extremely difficult at the Grandover Resort East Course during the final round of the ACC Women’s Golf Championship, UNC slipped from fifth to a tie for eight place after shooting a combined score of 13-over-par for the day.

Over the course of the 54 holes, the Tar Heels finished 31-over-par and tied for eighth alongside rival NC State.

Duke was crowned ACC champions after winning the tournament by 27 strokes over second-place Florida State.

It was an up-and-down weekend for the Tar Heels, who led all teams with four eagles across the three-round tournament–but also topped the field with a whopping 14 double or triple bogeys.

Sophomore Mariana Ocano was the team’s top individual performer, finishing in a tie for 23rd with a score of 7-over-par. This includes a 5-under-par 67 on Sunday, which tied the ACC Championship record for a single-round score at the Grandover East Course.

“You can’t have double bogeys and expect to do well, but we will work on it,” head coach Jan Mann said. “They are a great team. They are a great bunch of girls. We will see if we can get things in order for regionals.”
