Fresh off an upset over top-ranked Mikael Torpegaard (Ohio State) in Sunday’s semifinals, UNC sophomore William Blumberg defeated No. 24 Martin Redlicki (UCLA) in straight sets on Monday to win the ITA All-American Championship.

Blumberg entered the event in Tulsa as the No. 5 men’s tennis player in the country, but will certainly see his profile rise even higher in the near future

After upsetting Torpegaard in three sets, he knocked off Redlicki with relative ease, 6-4, 6-4.

Last season saw Blumberg reach the Finals of the NCAA Singles Tournament as a freshman.

His early season individual success this year gives the impression that he’s primed to take that one step further, as the unquestioned leader of the Tar Heel roster.
