CHAPEL HILL – UNC women’s basketball assistant coach Trisha Stafford-Odom will be the new head coach at Concordia University Irvine.

Stafford-Odom has coached the Heels for two seasons and also helped recruit the No. 1 signing class in the country this year.

“I am extremely proud of Trish and I am excited for her to take this next step in her coaching career,” Carolina head coach Sylvia Hatchell told UNC Athletics.

Concordia University Irvine is in Irvine, Calif., and competes in the Golden State Athletic Conference. The Eagles have not advanced to the NAIA Tournament since 1997, and Stafford-Odom will be the program’s ninth head coach.

Prior to her time in Chapel Hill, Stafford-Odom was an assistant at UCLA and Duke as well as the head coach at Westchester High School in Los Angeles.

Stafford-Odom played for the University of California and was a two-time first-team All-Pac-10 selection in 1991 and 1992. She was  recently inducted into the Cal Athletics Hall of Fame. She also has extensive professional playing experience in the WNBA.
