Redshirt freshman Holly Carlton notched her second triple double of the season on Friday night, as she helped lead the UNC volleyball to a comeback victory over the rival Duke Blue Devils at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill.

Carlton tallied 13 kills, 18 assists and 11 digs for UNC (6-7, 3-2 ACC), which dropped the first set of the evening before rallying to win the rest for a 3-1 victory (18-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-17).

She became the first Tar Heel in 25 years to register two triple doubles in a single season–giving the nearly 3,500 fans in attendance quite the performance.

“My teammates made it really easy for me tonight to be successful in all the different stat categories,” Carlton said. “I think that shows what a great all-around game the team had and I was just able to contribute to that.”

Taylor Leath chipped in 12 kills of her own, while UNC’s blockers–Beth Nordhorn, Katharine Esterly and Taylor Fricano–combined for their 10th-straight game with at least 10 blocks.

“I think sometimes dominating the net play is a mentality,” Carlton said. “Having this be our rival, our home court, protecting the home court and just having the aggressive mindset helped us at the net.”

Duke fell to 11-5 this season after the loss, with its record against ACC opponents falling to 3-2.
