UNC junior Luke Maye was named Co-ACC Player of the Week for his performance in the men’s basketball season opened in Chapel Hill on Friday.

The league announced the award on Monday following Maye setting a career high in points, 26, and grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds in Carolina’s victory over Northern Iowa.

Maye is sharing the honor with Duke freshman Marvin Bagley III, who scored 49 points and pulled down 20 rebounds over the course of his first two collegiate games for the Blue Devils.

This was the second double-double for Maye during his career in Chapel Hill. The UNC forward had 16 points and 12 rebounds against Butler in the Sweet 16 of last year’s NCAA Tournament. Maye followed up that performance by setting his previous career high 17 points in the Elite Eight matchup against Kentucky where Maye knocked in the game-winning shot.

Maye and the rest of the Tar Heels return to action on Wednesday night against visiting Bucknell.
