UNC football coach Larry Fedora has been named the Grant Teaff National Coach of the Year by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
The award was presented to Fedora Monday morning at an FCA breakfast, which was held in conjunction with the American Football Coaches Association Convention in San Antonio, Texas, according to a release.

The Tar Heel football team rattled off 11 straight victories during the 2015 season and captured the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Coastal Division Championship. Carolina lost in the ACC Championship game to Clemson – the Tigers plays Alabama for the national championship on Monday night – before falling to Baylor in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
Fedora said in the release:
“My faith is extremely important in my life. It’s safe to say I would not be the head coach at UNC if not for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. I don’t try to hide my faith and I don’t try to hide it in the program either. I really believe when these players come to Carolina, my responsibility is to see them grow academically, socially and spiritually.”
UNC set more than 60 school records in 2015.
Fedora signed a seven-year contract with UNC before the ACC Championship game.
Larry Fedora will be a part of the National Championship game broadcast. He will be one of five head coaches that will appear in ESPN 2’s Film Room as part of the network’s Megacast. Fedora, Florida coach Jim McElwain, Southern Florida’s Willie Taggart, Pittsburgh’s Pat Narduzzi and South Carolina’s new head coach Will Muschamp are scheduled to be a part of the broadcast beginning at 8:30.
