Despite suffering a heartbreaking loss in the NCAA Quarterfinals over the weekend, the UNC women’s tennis team garnered a couple more accolades on Tuesday.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association named Tar Heel standout Hayley Carter as its Senior Player of the Year, while assistant coach Courtney Nagle earned Assistant of the Year honors.

Carter is the back-to-back ACC Player of the Year, and holds a league record with 168 career singles victories. She has also been named an ITA All-American seven times throughout her career–a stat that includes both singles and doubles competition.

Throughout UNC history, only one other Tar Heel–Jenna Long in 2007–has won the ITA Senior Player of the Year award.

Likewise, Nagle is just the second UNC assistant coach to earn the Assistant of the Year honor–following Sara Anundsen, who achieved the feat in 2011.

In the three seasons since Nagle joined head coach Brian Kalbas’s staff, UNC has posted an incredible 94-8 record in duals matches. This includes two ACC Championships and a staggering 41-1 mark against conference opponents.

This year’s Tar Heel team finished the season with a record of 33-3–tying a school record for wins in a single season.
