The UNC football program needed some good news, and Thursday it was delivered.

Defensive tackle Ethan Farmer, a senior and the only D-line starter returning for the Tar Heels, had his eligibility okayed by the NCAA. Assistant athletic director for athletic communications, Kevin Best says Farmer will start on Saturday against Liberty.

Suspensions Pulling Focus From Liberty

Farmer started 13 games last season tallying 30 total tackles, including 2.5 tackles for a loss, and he forced a fumble. He’s second only to Travis Hughes’ 15 starts on the defensive side of the ball.

UNC didn’t announce what put Farmer’s eligibility in question.

This announcement comes a day and a half after news broke that an investigation is ongoing regarding an off-the-field altercation. The office of student affairs is handling the case.
