Not long after the UNC men’s and women’s lacrosse teams earned ACC Tournament Championships, the women’s tennis team followed up with one of its own Sunday afternoon.

The top-seeded Tar Heels used a late rally to edge past No. 3 seed Georgia Tech for a 4-3 victory at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.

It’s the eighth conference tournament title in school history for UNC (30-2), and second in a row–the first time the Tar Heels have won back-to-back league championships since winning four straight from 1977-1980.

“It’s amazing, I’ve been here 14 years and this is only our third championship,” head coach Brian Kalbas said afterward. “So to win back to back is truly amazing. It’s a tribute to our hard work, dedication and commitment to get better and strive for greatness.”

ACC Player of the Year Hayley Carter was named the Tournament MVP, but it was teammates Jessie Aney and Alexa Graham who came up clutch on Sunday.

With Georgia Tech taking the doubles point and leading 3-2 in the team score, Aney and Graham closed out a pair of three-set victories in singles competition to win UNC the match.
