For the fourth consecutive season, the UNC women’s tennis team will play for the ITA National Indoor Championship.
Playing in Madison, Wisconsin, the fifth-ranked Tar Heels defeated No. 9 Duke by a score of 4-1 in their semifinal match on Sunday, clinching a chance to play for the title on Monday.
UNC took the doubles point from the Blue Devils with a 6-4 victory from the team of Jessie Aney and Alexa Graham, followed by another 6-4 triumph from Alle Sanford and Sara Daavettila.
Graham (7-6, 6-1) and Daavettila (6-2, 6-2) each took their singles matches in straight sets, while Makenna Jones (2-6, 6-3, 6-4) closed out the win with a three-set victory over Duke’s Kelly Chen.
The Blue Devils’ only point came when Meible Chi picked up an upset win (6-2, 6-4) over Aney on Court Five.

UNC will face No. 6 Pepperdine in the championship match Monday, a team coming off a 4-3 upset over No. 2 Vanderbilt in Sunday’s other semifinal.
