A trio of second-half goals led the fifth-ranked UNC women’s soccer team to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Miami Hurricanes on Thursday night.

Playing on the road at Miami’s Cobb Stadium, the Tar Heels’ late surge delivered their fifth consecutive victory and kept them tied with Duke atop the ACC standings.

Freshman Alessia Russo opened scoring for UNC in the 48th minute, beating defenders off the dribble before scoring from 12 yards out for her fifth goal of the season.

The Tar Heels (9-2, 5-0 ACC) held onto the slim lead for the next half hour or so, until Madison Schultz redirected a hard-hit pass from Julia Ashley into the back of the net.

Bridgette Andrzejewski then added UNC’s third–and final–tally of the night in the 89th minute with the game in its closing stages.

Miami (4-6, 0-4 ACC) managed just one shot on goal throughout the entirety of the match, compared to 11 for UNC.
