For the second time in less than a week, the third-ranked UNC women’s lacrosse team laid an absolute smackdown on the rival Duke Blue Devils–this one coming during the ACC Quarterfinals.
Thursday afternoon saw the Tar Heels sprint out to a 10-goal halftime lead in Richmond, on the way to an 18-6 victory.
This comes just days after UNC (14-2) defeated the Blue Devils 19-7 in the regular season finale.
Carly Reed scored four goals for the Tar Heels, while Sydney Holman chipped in three goals and three assists.
First Team All-ACC midfielder Marie McCool scored once for UNC, but dished out four assists in a superb display of playmaking ability.
In total, 11 different players scored for head coach Jenny Levy’s squad–which appears poised to make a run at defending last year’s conference and national titles.
Duke (8-9) was led by Kitty Morrissey, who scored two goals and was the only Blue Devil to tally more than a single point.
Next up for the top-seeded Tar Heels is the ACC Semifinals on Friday, where they will face the winner of Notre Dame and Boston College.
