The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association released its annual preseason poll on Monday, with UNC checking in at No. 3 to start the 2018 campaign.
Last year’s ACC Tournament and regular season champions, the Tar Heels are looking to repeat that same success in conference play while advancing further than the NCAA Quarterfinals this season.
Defending national champion Maryland will start the year atop the poll, and No. 2 Stony Brook is the only other team ranked in front of UNC.
Penn State and Florida make up the rest of the top five, while the back half of the top 10 consists of group including: No. 6 Boston College, No. 7 Syracuse, No. 8 USC, No. 9 Princeton and No. 10 Navy.
Six of the ACC’s eight teams were included in the poll, which was two more than any other conference in America.
The Tar Heels are scheduled to begin their season on the road with a visit to James Madison on Saturday, Feb. 10.
