From 3-9 in 2017 to a spot with the defending Super Bowl champions.

That’s the new reality for UNC wide receivers coach Gunter Brewer, who will now be taking the same role with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles–according to a report from Inside Carolina on Monday morning.

Brewer takes over for Mike Groh, who was promoted to the Eagles’ offensive coordinator when Frank Reich left to take the Indianapolis Colts’ head coaching job.

He has spent the last six seasons under Larry Fedora in Chapel Hill, and has been at UNC for a total of 11 years during his esteemed coaching career when factoring in his stint from 2000-2004.

Although Brewer will be reuniting with former Tar Heel standout receiver–and current Eagle–Mack Hollins in Philadelphia, his loss is significant for the UNC program.

Four of the five most prolific receivers in Tar Heel history (Ryan Switzer, Quinshad Davis, Jawarski Pollack and Erik Highsmith) played under Brewer, and he is considered a top recruiter on the national level.

Brewer has also played a role in coaching top receiving talent such as Randy Moss, Dez Bryant and Justin Blackmon during previous stops at Marshall and Oklahoma State.

He was also the co-offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for Fedora’s staff–leaving a huge void to be filled.
