Behind 25 kills from star hitter Taylor Leath, the UNC volleyball team gave the rival NC State Wolfpack its first ACC loss of the season on Wednesday night at Carmichael Arena–winning by a score of 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-14, 25-22).

The victory completed a perfect five-game homestand for the Tar Heels (10-7, 7-2 ACC), who appear to be rounding into form after a slow start to the season.

UNC got off to a strong start by winning the first set, and then reeled off victories in each of the final two sets after NC State (13-7, 8-1 ACC) took the second set.

In addition to Leath’s impressive performance, UNC also received eight kills apiece from Taylor Borup and Taylor Fricano.

Freshman Holly Carlton also chipped in seven kills to go with her team-high 24 assists.

“I’ll just say this is a really great match by this team,” UNC head coach Joe Sagula said afterwards. “To beat a team that was undefeated [in the ACC], to hold State to .148 hitting—that’s the lowest they’ve hit all year. They were playing really good volleyball. “
