Both of North Carolina’s top-five tennis teams came away unscathed after a weekend of Atlantic Coast Conference play.

The top-ranked men’s team cruised to victories over visiting Clemson and No. 45 Virginia Tech.

No. 1 UNC made quick work of the Tigers on Friday afternoon on the way to a 6-1 victory.

Virginia Tech, meanwhile, defeated Duke 5-2 on Friday before making the trip from Durham to Chapel Hill to take on the Tar Heels on Sunday.

UNC improved to 20-1 on the season and 5-1 in ACC play with a 5-2 victory over the Hokies Sunday afternoon.

This marks the third consecutive season the Tar Heels have reached 20 wins.

Carolina will host Virginia at three o’clock Friday afternoon.

For the fourth-ranked UNC women’s team, the weekend meant a parallel matchup with the UNC men’s basketball team as both sets of Tar Heels squared off with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Before the UNC men’s hoops team knocked off Notre Dame to advance to the Final Four on Sunday, the Tar Heels women’s tennis team took care of the Fighting Irish on Saturday in Chapel Hill.

Carolina beat No. 42 Notre Dame 5-2 in dominating fashion.

The top-ranked doubles team in the country – Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay – continued their great play on the season as the Tar Heels secured the doubles point. Notre Dame did win two singles matches, but it was not enough as UNC moved to 19-2 overall and 7-0 in ACC play.

The Tar Heels will be back in action visiting Duke at three o’clock Tuesday afternoon.
