The UNC softball team is off to a 3-1 start to its 2018 regular season campaign, with sophomore pitcher Brittany Pickett a big reason why.

Pickett was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday–after compiling a 3-0 record, two complete game shutouts and a 0.00 ERA in the UCF “Friends of Jaclyn” Invitational.

Her first win came in the Tar Heels’ season opener against Butler on Saturday, when she came in out of the bullpen with no outs and successfully helped UNC escape a bases-loaded jam. From there, the Indian Trail, North Carolina native pitched the next three innings without allowing a run to secure the 7-4 victory.

Later that same afternoon, Pickett started against Louisville and allowed just four hits as the Tar Heels won 2-0.

Then in the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader, she struck out seven hitters during her shutout while pitching the full seven innings. Pickett would then go on to pitch the eighth inning–as UNC needed an extra frame to knock off Central Florida 2-0.

The Tar Heels are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, when they travel to face Elon in a game scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
