The North Carolina Tar Heels moved up to No. 14 in the latest College Football Playoff Rankings.

The Tar Heels defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday afternoon, 30-27 in an overtime thriller.  Carolina clinched the ACC Coastal Division Championship with the victory and will face the Clemson Tigers in Charlotte on December 5th.

The College Football Playoff committee ranked Clemson at the No. 1 spot last week. This week, the Tigers remained in the top spot.  Alabama stayed at No. 2.

Before that ACC Championship game, the Tar Heels head to Raleigh for a rivalry game against the North Carolina Wolfpack at 3:30 on Saturday afternoon.  WCHL’s coverage of that game begins at 1:30 with Countdown to Kickoff with Ron Stutts.

The College Football Playoff Rankings are released every Tuesday from November 3 until December 1 with the final rankings getting released on Sunday, December 6.  The top four teams in the final College Football Playoff Rankings will compete in the College Football Playoff starting on December 31.

2. Alabama Crimson Tide

3. Oklahoma Sooners

4.  Iowa Hawkeyes

That puts Michigan State and Notre Dame as the “first two out.”

The ACC has three teams in the top 25.  Clemson, North Carolina, and Florida State at No. 13.
