UNC Pitcher Trent Thornton has agreed to a contract with the Houston Astros, according to Fox 26 in Houston.

The former Tar Heel hurler was selected by the Astros in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball Draft earlier this week.

Thornton says the final step in completion of the deal is passing his physical, which is scheduled for Saturday.

He was a consensus All-American as a freshman.

This year Thornton had 81 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched.

Thronton was one of seven other members of the 2015 UNC baseball team selected on day two and day three of the draft.
