The announcement came Monday morning that the UNC men’s basketball team will travel to face Elon for its second game of the 2018-19 season–a game that will represent the debut of the Phoenix’s brand new 5,100 seat arena.

When the Tar Heels officially step foot inside the Schar Center, it will be the first time Elon has welcomed UNC for a men’s basketball game in 68 years.

The game is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 9 and will be the first time the two teams have met in any capacity since Dec. 29, 2011.

“We are excited to open Schar Center in a few short months,” said Elon Director of Athletics Dave Blank. “This facility will have a tremendous impact on our campus and community and we are thrilled for everyone to experience all that Schar Center has to offer.

“We’re very appreciative of Coach [Roy] Williams, [UNC Athletic Director] Bubba Cunningham, and the UNC Tar Heels for agreeing to be part of Phoenix history as we play our opening men’s basketball game on November 9.”
