CHAPEL HILL–UNC Offensive Coordinator Blake Anderson will be the new head coach at Arkansas State University.

Arkansas State Athletic Director Terry Mohajir announced the hire Thursday. Anderson is the fifth coach in five seasons for the Red Wolves.

Defensive coordinator John Thompson will serve as interim coach when Arkansas State plays Ball State in the GoDaddy Bowl Jan. 5.

Anderson, who has been at UNC for two seasons, will not be calling the offensive plays for the Tar Heels in the Belk Bowl Dec. 28.

In Anderson’s first season with the Tar Heels in 2012, his offense set more than 35 records including points per game and total offense.

Anderson’s offensive approach should work well at Arkansas State. The Red Wolves have gone 27-11 over the last three seasons with fellow offensive minds at the helm.
