The 12th-ranked UNC men’s tennis team started its ACC Tournament run off on the right foot Friday afternoon in Rome, Georgia at the Rome Tennis Center.

Head coach Sam Paul and company–the third seed in the ACC–knocked off the Florida State Seminoles by a team score of 4-1, in the first conference tournament match between the two teams since 2007.

UNC gained early momentum by winning the doubles point, before the Seminoles tied things up with a quick 6-2, 6-1 singles win from Lucas Poullain over Simon Soendergaard.

From there, however, it was all Tar Heels.

The trio of William Blumberg, Robert Kelly and Ronnie Schneider cruised to singles victories of their own in straight sets–with Schneider, the nation’s 21st-ranked player, sealing the deal on a beautifully struck ace.

Blumberg–the freshman star who has risen to No. 28 in the national rankings–improved to 12-0 this season against ACC opponents.
