Coming off a tight win over then-No. 12 Duke this past Saturday, the fifth-ranked UNC men’s tennis team completed a clean sweep over its Triangle rivals on Wednesday with a 5-0 road victory over No. 16 NC State.

UNC is now 12-3 this season (3-0 ACC) after the win, while the Wolfpack fall to 10-2 (0-1 ACC) with the loss.

The Tar Heels rolled to the doubles point after winning on the first two courts 6-2, 6-1 and then went on to dominate singles competition as well.

Sophomore William Blumberg–the nation’s top ranked singles player–earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over No. 22 Alexis Galarneau to kick things off, before the rest of head coach Sam Paul’s squad followed suit.

Next to win in straight sets was Blaine Boyden (6-2, 6-4) and Robert Kelly (6-4, 7-5), two players who played their high school tennis in Raleigh.

UNC then closed out the match with a three-set triumph from Simon Soendergaard over Tadas Babelis (2-6, 6-3, 7-6) on Court 2.

“They’re a very good team,” Coach Paul said, of the Wolfpack. “I liked our focus today. We came in really focused in doubles and singles and played well.”
