A rematch of last year’s NCAA Tournament finals on Sunday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill saw the fifth-ranked UNC men’s tennis exact revenge with a 6-1 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers.
The Tar Heels (14-4, 4-1 ACC) started off the match by winning the doubles point, before winning the next five consecutive singles matches to clinch the easy victory.
UNC’s only loss of the entire day was a three-set match on Court Three where No. 32 ranked Aswin Lizen defeated the Tar Heels’ Simon Soendergaard 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
It was only the second three-set match of the day, as the Tar Heels won in straight sets in all of the other four.
With the loss, Virginia dropped to 11-7 this season with a 4-3 record against ACC opponents.
