With the start of the regular season approaching quickly, the UNC men’s lacrosse team will enter the year as the No. 9 ranked team in America in the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division I Coaches Poll–which was released Tuesday.

The Tar Heels are coming off an up-and-down season where they went 8-8 but captured the ACC Tournament Championship.

This year’s schedule won’t do them many favors, either, as they’ll play seven of their 14 games against teams ranked in the top 20 of the preseason poll.

Defending national champion Maryland is the No. 1 team in the country, with Duke, Albany, Denver and Yale making up the rest of the top five.

Other ACC schools included in the poll besides UNC and Duke include: No. 6 Notre Dame and No. 10 Syracuse.

The Tar Heels are scheduled to begin their season on Saturday Feb. 3, when they host Loyola at Kenan Stadium.
