The UNC men’s lacrosse team was picked to finish last in the ACC, in a preseason coaches’ poll released Monday.

Norte Dame claimed the number one spot, with Duke coming in second and Syracuse and Virginia tied for third.

The poll was based on the rankings of the five ACC head coaches and was released as part of the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook.

While Carolina was ranked fifth out of the five ACC teams, the Tar Heels were ranked fifth in the country in a national preseason poll released simultaneously.

The national poll saw the Tar Heels ahead of Virginia and Syracuse, who were ranked No. 6 and 7 respectively. Notre Dame was named the top team in the nation.

UNC ended their 2015 season with a 14-7 loss to Maryland in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal.

Junior attack man Luke Goldstock, junior defenseman Austin Pifani and short-stick defensive midfielder Tate Jozokos, were all selected for the All-ACC preseason team.

Jozokos was also named preseason short-stick midfielder of the year.

The UNC men’s lacrosse team starts their regular season on February 6 at home against Michigan.
