Despite being billed as one of the top national title contenders in all the land since the beginning of the season, the UNC men’s basketball team slipped out of the top 10 in the rankings for two weeks after losing its ACC opener.

Since then, however, the Tar Heels have rattled off four straight wins–including an electrifying home victory over then-No.9 Florida State on Saturday.

As a result, UNC found itself taking the Seminoles’ spot at No. 9 in this week’s AP Top 25.

Villanova returned to take the No. 1 spot in the poll after Baylor–now No. 6 after holding the top ranking last week–suffered its first loss of the season last Monday against No. 7 West Virginia.

Kansas, UCLA, Gonzaga and Kentucky comprised the rest of top five behind last year’s national champions.

With Duke having lost its last two games under interim head coach Jeff Capel, the Blue Devils slipped all the way from No. 7 to No. 18 in the poll–leaving the Tar Heels as the highest ranked team in the ACC.

Florida State checks in just behind UNC at No. 10, with No. 12 Louisville, No. 15 Notre Dame and No. 16 Virginia joining the Tobacco Road blue-bloods as ACC schools among the top 25.

The ACC’s six ranked teams once again lead the nation, as the conference continues to prove it’s among the strongest leagues ever assembled.

Led by NBC’s Co-National Players of the Week Joel Berry and Justin Jackson, UNC will look to continue its winning ways with a home game against Syracuse on Monday and a road matchup with Boston College this Saturday.
