It will be a championship rematch from decades ago as the defending national champion UNC basketball team will host Michigan as part of the 2017 ACC-Big Ten Challenge next season.

The upcoming matchups were announced on Thursday.

This will be the first time the Tar Heels and Wolverines have played since the 1993 national championship game in New Orleans which gave legendary UNC head coach Dean Smith his second and final national title.

It will mark the sixth overall matchup between UNC and Michigan with Carolina holding the all-time series lead at 3-2. This will also be the first game between the two sides to take place on either campus. The two teams have played four times in the NCAA Tournament championship and once in Honolulu as part of the Rainbow Classic.

Carolina is 9-9 in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.

The date and time of the game will be announced by ESPN at a later date.
