The regular season didn’t exactly end the way the UNC football team would have liked it to, as the Tar Heels lost to both Duke and NC State in the final three weeks on the way to an 8-4 record.

What can’t be taken away from head coach Larry Fedora’s team is the amount of high-level talent they put out on the field this season.

When the All-ACC teams were released Monday, UNC placed 12 players on either the First, Second, Third or Honorable Mention teams.

Senior wide receiver Ryan Switzer–who set a new school record with 91 receptions for over 1,000 yards–was the only Tar Heel to make it onto the All-ACC First Team, however.

Offensive tackle Jon Heck and center Lucas Crowley joined kick returner TJ Logan on the Second Team, while quarterback Mitch Trubisky, tailback Elijah Hood and defensive tackle Nazair Jones each made the Third Team.

Despite having arguably the best passing season in school history, Trubisky failed to receive more votes than Heisman Trophy candidates Lamar Jackson (First Team, Louisville) and Deshaun Watson (Second Team, Clemson).

The list of UNC’s honorable mentions includes: wide receiver Bug Howard, kicker Nick Weiler, linebacker Andre Smith and cornerbacks MJ Stewart and Des Lawrence.

Defending ACC Champion Clemson led all schools with 15 players honored–including nine First Team selections–but UNC showed just how far it has come as a football program by trailing just behind one of the nation’s elite teams.
