Back-to-back losses on the road to a pair of ranked opponents in Florida State and Virginia this past week caused UNC to slide back eight spots to No. 20 in the newest edition of the Associated Press Men’s Basketball Top 25, which was released on Monday.

The Tar Heels came up just a point shy of defeating the Seminoles on Wednesday, but then put forth a horrendous offensive performance in Charlottesville on Saturday afternoon.

After a week that saw plenty of other ranked squads suffer similar fates, the new poll features plenty of shake-ups.

A familiar face in Villanova returns to the No. 1 spot this week, followed by No. 2 West Virginia, No. 3 Virginia, No. 4 Michigan State and a tie at No. 5 between Wichita State and Purdue.

Duke then checks in at No. 7 after losing Saturday to NC State on the road, with No. 8 Texas Tech, No. 9 Oklahoma and No. 10 Xavier making up the rest of the top 10.

The ACC has a total of six ranked teams as No. 18 Miami, No. 19 Clemson and No. 24 Florida State join Virginia, Duke and UNC in the poll.

UNC returns to action Tuesday night at home against Boston College, then closes the week with a road game at Notre Dame on Saturday.
