ATLANTA – The No. 1 UNC baseball team evened its series with Georgia Tech Saturday night 3-1 after rain delayed the start more than an hour and a half.

Offensively, it was another slow night for the Tar Heels in Atlanta. UNC got on the board in the top of the first after senior Chaz Frank started the game off with a double. He was batted around for the score, but two additional runners were left on base.

The Heels left one more on in the second and two more in the third with which they could have extended the lead, but the defense held and Carolina remained in control, 1-0.

Carolina extended its lead to two in the sixth and added a security run in the ninth. Georgia Tech tried to get in the contest late with a single run in the bottom of the ninth, but freshman Trent Thornton held on as the closer and Carolina took the 3-1 win.

UNC and Georgia Tech meet in the rubber match Sunday at 1:00 p.m. You can hear all the action live on 97.9 FM WCHL and here.
