For the second time in three seasons, the UNC men’s basketball team encountered a rare situation where none of its incoming recruits were named to the McDonald’s All-American Game.

The general feeling within the program, however, is that incoming signee Jalek Felton–ranked No. 24 on ESPN’s Top 100 list–was snubbed from the nation’s most prestigious high school all-star event.

Felton’s talent was recognized on Friday, though, when it was revealed he will compete in another top-tier game–the Jordan Brand Classic.

Like the McDonald’s All-American Game, the Jordan Brand Classic gives the nation’s top 24 high school players a chance to showcase their talents. Many of the top players compete in both events.

Felton–a 6-foot-3 combo guard–averaged 24 points, five rebounds, five assists and nearly three steals per game last season as a junior at Mullins High School in Mullins, South Carolina. He transferred to Gray Collegiate Academy this year for the opportunity to play with and against tougher competition.

Many Tar Heel fans should be quite familiar with his family name as well.

Felton is the nephew of former UNC point guard Raymond Felton–who was one of the key components to the team’s 2005 national title run.

This year’s Jordan Brand Classic will take place on April 14 in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center.
