BLACKSBURG- The North Carolina baseball team defeated Virginia Tech in game one of its weekend three series on Friday 21-8 reaching a season high in hits and runs.

The Tar Heels started off strong with six runs in the first inning.

Junior catcher Brian Holberton and senior outfielder Chaz Frank each added four hits for the Tar Heels. Frank reached a career high of four RBIs and Holberton had a career high of five runs.

North Carolina starting junior pitcher Kent Emanuel improved to 7-1 on the season and 24-6 overall in his career putting him tied ninth most in program history.

Junior third baseman Colin Moran, freshman short stop Landon Lassiter, and sophomore infielder Michael Russell helped lead North Carolina to victory with three runs apiece.

Senior first baseman Cody Stubbs had three RBIs and hit his fourth home run of season.

With the win, the Tar Heels improved to 32-2 overall and 13-2 in ACC play. The Hokies fell to 22-13, 7-9.

The Tar Heels will play in game two of the series with the Hoakies Saturday. North Carolina will play for its sixth ACC win. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Blacksburg.
