After taking a tour of historic Fenway Park on Friday–a trip that came about thanks to that day’s game being postponed–the No. 5 UNC baseball team appeared to have absorbed some of the Red Sox’ talents, Space Jam style.

The Tar Heel offense exploded for 48 combined runs during a three-game sweep over ACC bottom-feeder Boston College (9-20, 1-14 ACC)–the most they’ve ever scored in a three-game conference series.

Zack Gahagan’s grand slam highlighted a 17-7 win in Saturday’s series opener–a game in which UNC hit four home runs as a team, including long balls from Logan Warmoth, Kyle Datres and Brian Miller.

Every starter either drove in a run, or scored one, on Saturday.

Gahagan and Datres each homered again in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader, helping the Tar Heels win 16-4.

UNC tallied a season-high 20 hits during the opening leg.

Boston College was finally put out of its misery soon after, as the Tar Heels cruised to a 15-3 victory in the third–and final–game of the series.

Warmoth hit his second home run of the series in that game, while Datres led the team with three RBIs.

It was by far the most prolific offensive series of the season for the red-hot Tar Heels (26-6, 12-3 ACC), who continue to make a case as one of the nation’s top teams.

Midseason All-American JB Bukauskas had his worst start of the season on Friday–getting rocked for seven runs in just four innings–but was bailed out by the terrific production from the bats.

Following the conclusion of the series, the Tar Heels have hit 35 home runs as a team this season–three more than they hit throughout the entirety of last year.

As dominant as UNC’s pitching has been in 2017, the Tar Heels become that much more of a threat when they hit the ball as well as they did in Boston.
