When the UNC men’s basketball team–ranked 11th in the country–hosts No. 9 Florida State at the Smith Center on Saturday, it will have to do so without freshman center Tony Bradley.

The team took to Twitter on Friday afternoon to announce the 6-foot-10 Florida native has not cleared his concussion protocol and will need more time to recover.

He suffered the injury during the first half of Wednesday’s win over Wake Forest after a collision with an opposing player led to him banging his head on the floor.

So far this season, Bradley (8.1 points , 5.7 rebounds per game) has been UNC’s top threat off the bench. He has also represented the only traditional big man head coach Roy Williams has in his reserves.

This caused starters Kennedy Meeks and Isaiah Hicks to receive extra playing time–while each recording four fouls–against the Demon Deacons.

Bradley’s absence against Florida State could cause similar issues–especially considering the size and athleticism possessed by the Seminoles.

While Justin Jackson has proven he can stretch defenses with his shooting ability if he fills in down low, UNC’s defense has suffered in those situations.

How Williams addresses this key injury on Saturday will be a huge factor in the result, win or lose.
