There’s a case to be made that two games into UNC’s 2017 football season, the Tar Heels’ most valuable player to this point has been punter Tom Sheldon.

After punting four times for a total of 214 yards in the Tar Heels’ loss to Louisville this past weekend, Sheldon was recognized Monday as the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week.

Three of his four punts were not returned, including one that traveled a whopping 66 yards before bouncing down perfectly at the Louisville 1-yard-line.

The 29-year-old sophomore from Australia has continuously helped UNC pin its opponents deep in their own territory, which has been critical due to the team’s inconsistencies on both offense and defense.

Sheldon will look to continue his hot start to the season this Saturday, when the Tar Heels travel to face Old Dominion.
